Recycled cardboard box used to ship medical supplies

Based on results from regular Customer Satisfaction Surveys U-M Specialty Pharmacy is excited to share changes we’ve made to reduce waste.

Introducing Our Recyclable Packaging Program

In March 2024, U-M Specialty Pharmacy converted to recyclable packaging that is better for the environment. The new curbside recyclable packaging has already kept nearly 44,000 Styrofoam coolers out of landfills, and this number continues to grow.

What to Expect in Your Shipment

U-M Specialty Pharmacy now uses eco-friendly packaging materials to ship medications. Here’s how they help:

Boxes and Insulation:

Made from recycled materials. Are certified curbside recyclable (consult with local community guidelines). Maintain proper temperatures during transit.

Gel Packs:

Certified organic and non-toxic. The gel inside may be thawed and safely poured down a drain or flushed down a toilet. May be cleaned and refrozen for home use.

 Water Blankets:

May be refrozen and reused. Leakproof to prevent water damage; they remain intact even under pressure. Provide reliable temperature control for your medications.
